A BJSM thesis summary asks how endurance and resistance exercise change eye pressure in primary open-angle glaucoma

What the research found
The British Journal of Sports Medicine published a PhD Academy Award summary on 4 November 2026. The thesis set out guidance for using physical exercise in primary open-angle glaucoma without compromising ocular health. The stated aims were to turn existing evidence into practical recommendations for eye-care and exercise professionals, and to measure the acute effects of low-intensity endurance exercise, dynamic resistance exercise, and isometric resistance exercise at different intensities on intraocular pressure and ocular perfusion pressure. The summary says lowering intraocular pressure is the only proven way to slow glaucoma progression, and that earlier acute exercise data came mostly from healthy people. This page is a thesis overview. The portion available for this farm stops before the outcome numbers, so those figures are not reported here. Not medical advice.
Evidence level: Human study. A study in people, but an association isn't proof of cause.
