Six-hour eating window and calorie counting both lowered testosterone in women with PCOS
Source: EurekAlert
What the research found
Study (randomized trial). Krista Varady and University of Illinois Chicago colleagues report in Nature Medicine on 76 pre-menopausal women with PCOS. Six months of time-restricted eating (1–7 p.m.) versus calorie counting each cut intake by about 200 kcal/day and weight by about 10 lb. Both lowered testosterone; only TRE reduced free androgen index (active testosterone reaching tissues) without harming other female hormones in this report. PCOS is a clinical diagnosis; this is not a fertility protocol or a substitute for clinician-guided care. Educational nutrition notes, not medical advice.
Evidence level: Clinical trial. This is among the stronger kinds of evidence, but one study rarely settles a question.
